Record book, 1758-1759.

This volume contains chronological entries by Savage concerning orders by New England shippers for marine insurance, 1758-1759. Included are requests for setting the cost of premiums on specific ships, orders for coverage with costs determined by the type and amount of ammunition on board, occasional conditions of coverage, and the dates and points of embarkation and arrival (e.g., Antigua, Monte Christo, Gibraltar, and several North American ports). The shippers include John Ruddock (1713-1772), Thomas Boylston (1721-1798), and Captain Richard Derby (1736-1781).

Samuel Phillips Savage (1718?-1797) was a Boston, Mass., merchant, constable, insurance broker, and selectman, 1760-1761. Savage was appointed moderator of the Town Meeting held at the Old South Church on the evening of the Boston Tea Party. He also served on the Massachusetts Board of War during the Revolution and was appointed Judge of the Middlesex County Court of Common Pleas in 1782. From the description of Record book, 1758-1759.
